One child was strapped onto my back, while another crawled around in the playpen. I spent 12 hours days, for months, sanding and taking wallpaper off, all with one child. Ha! We were getting close to completing, however the project was still a distance away. It would take the time, energy, and of course my favourite shopping experience to furnish this house. To keep in my budget I took my sons along with me as I searched for gems hidden in estate sales. Our weekly routine that included spending Friday through Saturday at estate and garage sales, shopping for new and used things. I then spent the remainder of the week working on painting and sanding the driveway. It looked a bit similar to the following... Here is where my love for restoring antique furniture started. Even after our house was furnished I couldn't put it down! In the market in town, I rented a small space, and also sold pieces. Eventually, I had too lots of pieces to keep in the space available. My house was transformed into a space that I hosted open houses. Up 1000 people would be able to view items from the first floor, and then purchase them. It was here that my business Growing Days was born. As my business flourished, so did our little family. As a young mom I was able to find the perfect way to be able to begin my own business as well as being a decent mother. Growing Days seemed like the best combination. I opted to take a little break from my antique furniture and stay at home with the kids. That was exactly what i required. In the course of a few months, my phone started to start to. They were asking for my help in interior decoration as well as renovations. Many of the people calling me were people who had visited my home at one of the furniture open houses. In the following months, I began to take on new clients in my own way. Then I was able to have many clients, and had as a home improvement business. If you'd predicted that this venture of mine would turn into an idea for a TV show on DIY Network I probably would have thought you were crazy. In fact, I do amused when I think of the idea.
